Let go of my Lego

It is amazing how much stuff two people can accumulate after 30 years of marriage. Letting go of most of the items is easy regardless of there monetary value.  It is the little treasures that are a challenge.  One of the biggest ones I recently dealt with was parting with my kid’s Legos.  After all, they haven’t been played with in 15 years. It was the unexpected emotional piece that caught me off guard.  Legos have two levels of emotional happiness.  The first is from my childhood and the second is the joy they brought my kids.  I knew we couldn’t realistically store a huge tub in our new house. I finally decided  to keep a hundred or so.  The rest went to my niece.

So if your longing to build a Lego tiny house just let me know.  I have everything you’ll need.

Happy Saturday. It’s too wet to work outside today, so John decided to bake a pumpkin and puree it. He has great plans for this pumpkin: pumpkin pie, cake and bars. He had so much fun doing this simple task. Just a glimpse of our future tiny life.

How Did We Get Here?

“Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication.”

Leonardo da Vinci

John and I have often talked about how nice it would be to sell everything, buy an RV and travel the world. We visited RV shows in the past, but didn’t really see how to make it happen. It takes a lot of time and energy to maintain our house and yard. We feel encumbered by our mortgage, stuff and responsibilities.

In August, The Sanctuary, a Tiny House Village in Northern  Minnesota hosted and open house. It was wonderful. Bill and Brenda, the owners are wonderful people and we really hit it off with them. The area is so pretty and peaceful. It was at that moment, we knew we wanted to Go Tiny.

We did a lot of research and met with Ryan Ott and Stephanie Kubes from Midwest Tiny Living. Ryan is building Stephanie’s beautiful tiny home. They are amazing and have been a great support to us as we take steps to realize this dream.

We went to the Tiny Fest Midwest in Iowa and met some amazing people such as Jay Shafer who built the first tiny house. It was empowering to hear from builders and tiny house dwellers. We even learned about composting toilets. Still trying to wrap our heads around that idea.

We have met with other tiny house dwellers who are living this lifestyle. Now, we are going forward with this decision and so happy. Stay tuned for more details.

The Start of a Brand New Life

“You Don’t Need More Space. You Need Less Stuff”

Hello. We are John and Barb Pabst and we are baby boomers who have made the BIG decision to GO TINY. You wouldn’t think going tiny would be such a huge undertaking, but it is. We are selling our house and most of our stuff and building a tiny house. It may look like we are giving up a lot, but we are gaining even more-FREEDOM. We are excited and scared at the same time. This is the very beginning of this crazy journey. We will use this blog to share our adventure with you.

Live Simply,

John and Barb
